Comprehensive Integrative Pain Management (CIPM)

2019 Integrative Pain Care Policy Congress Sponsorship Opportunities

Promoting comprehensive integrative pain management (CIPM) is vital to solving our nation’s overlapping public health crises of chronic pain, opioid misuse and overdose, and mental health disorders. For the past 30 years, the Academy of Integrative Pain Management (AIPM) has been at the forefront of CIPM and, in 2017, we hosted the inaugural Integrative Pain Care Policy Congress, a meeting that united representatives from approximately 50 organizations and agencies, including the full scope of licensed and certified health care professionals, public and private payers, people living with pain, federal agencies, purchasers of health care, researchers, policymakers, and policy experts.

The first meeting led to the development of a consensus definition of CIPM -- something that had never been accomplished before -- as well as three new workgroups who meet monthly and have representation from 45 organizations. In November 2018, our second annual meeting had as its primary goal the development of action steps around our shared priorities. The growth of interest in the work of the Congress was demonstrated by the growth of involvement by stakeholders, to 76 organizations and agencies. (See Medscape's recap of the 2018 meeting, and our own Executive Summary here.) In January 2019, this platform of action will be released.

As the only collective of its kind, we remain unified around agreement that CIPM is necessary to address our nation’s opioid challenges, and that no one stakeholder can properly advance this kind of care alone. In 2019, we will continue the momentum and build on what we've accomplished together. But in order to do so, we need more financial support. In addition to sponsorship, we are actively researching and seeking grant opportunities that are relevant to our collective work.

In 2019, we will continue the work we've started -- and accomplish even more:

  • Continue the three Policy Congress workgroups with representatives from 45 organizations.
  • Develop new white papers produced by the workgroups.
  • Offer more webinars, like the one in December with Drs. Vanila Singh and Shari Ling
  • Maintain the CIPM Blog, including timely policy opportunities and guest blog posts, to which all participating organizations are welcome to contribute.
  • Build an active social media presence to build awareness of CIPM.
  • Help defray costs for the 2019 in-person meeting, and increase our capacity.
  • Include participants in developing strategic communications, such as op-eds and press releases.
  • Promote common language among our organizations.
  • Share more resources for your members, such as the Moving Beyond Medications one-pager.
  • Create ongoing opportunities for engaging your members who are interested in CIPM.
